6th Post - Urban Subterranean Gardens

Urban Subterranean Gardens is a "Lowline Underground Park" project that has been created for the city of New York. How the idea came about was from a project called the "High Line Initiative" where elevated parks were created in unused city infrastructure, the "Lowline Underground Park" focuses on the underground space below the city.

The "Lowline Underground Park" was designed by Dan Barasch and James Ramsey who is a former NASA satellite engineer. The park is just the beginning they want to raise 100,000 dollars to fund the project.

They proposed to build it along and unused subway line at Delancey Street in New York's lower east side. The space is about 13 acres and was built in 1903.They will use fiber optic cables to fill the subway with natural light and real plants. The aim of the Lowline Underground Park is to "...recapture the past in a semi-futuristic way."
